With the combined sounds from HVAC (air conditioning) systems, multiple cooling fans, and other equipment, the sustained sounds can make it difficult to have conversations or even concentrate. New Trends in Data Center Ethernet Connectivity
Last year Facebook and LinkedIn, following the moves of other hyperscale data center operators, decided to design their own data center networking switch and replaced off-the-shelf switches with 100G ports. They felt that off-the-shelf switch vendors, such as Cisco and Juniper, were unable to meet their requirements in high bandwidth, high availability, and rapid deployment. As a result, for example, LinkedIn came up with its first in-house developed 100G data center switch called Pigeon, which includes 32 x 100G ports. It plans to roll out at scale in its upcoming data center in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Innovations Big and Small
Recently we met with a robotics company that is developing service robots for the hotel industry. When customers staying in the hotel make requests for more shampoo or towels, these service robots would make the delivery right to the customer’s hotel room. These service robots would allow for quicker service for the customers and decreased costs to the hotels. It’s exciting to see innovative ideas being developed. Here’s a few more innovative ideas:

The Bend Radius Determines How Much You Can Bend a Cable
The bend radius is defined as the minimum radius a cable can be bent without damaging it or degrading its performance. If a cable is bent beyond its bend radius, it will kink it, damage it, shorten its life, or increase crosstalk or interference. Welcome to the New Pactech
For the past few years, we have seen a growing number of our customers buying our products for large data center deployments. This trend well aligns with the prediction by Gartner, a well respected market research company for the IT industry, that worldwide IT spendings on data center will reach $144 billion worldwide in year 2015.
